A history of luxury
When The Onesto Hotel opened its doors in 1930, young hotelier Francis A. Onesto recognized the potential in downtown Canton. His hotel was an immediate hit with residents and visitors alike and hailed as a modern marvel. No expense was spared in the construction and operation of his luxury hotel. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to duplicate the hotel today.
Restored to its former elegance
When developer Steve Coon acquired the property a decade ago from The Stark Community Foundation, he was gratified to discover the lavish features the hotel had been known for were still in place and ready for restoration. Even though the hotel was vacant for 35 years, the rooms still had many features in tact including porcelain fixtures and ornate woodwork. He used historic photos to restore many of the hotel’s features to their former glory, including its Grand Ballroom and Lobby.
It’s not just about restoring a building, it’s about restoring a community, a city and a new way of life.
